Deployment of the new infrastructure in Cumbria commenced in late 2022, and implementation will run until 2027. The investment by BDUK, combined with Fibrus’ substantial investment in network build costs, will help transform the broadband connectivity landscape for many citizens and businesses across rural towns, villages and hamlets from Grasmere to Gilsland, and Buttermere to Beckermet. The first premises were connected in Spring 2023 in the village of Staveley. The investment in Cumbria will also spark new apprenticeship and employment opportunities in the county with the creation of apprenticeships over the course of the project delivery.
